Devakaiís interest in massage therapy started when she was young teenager. Her mother worked long hours on her feet all day and then came home to care for the family, cook, and perform other tasks. She remembers seeing her mother in great need of help. In efforts to relieve her mother from the physical strains of her over worked body, Devakai would try to help her with some instinctual massage work, wishing she could do more for her. This helpless feeling and memory stuck with her. It was the catalyst that guided her towards her career as a professional bodyworker.
Devakai explains her work as an integrated bodywork style. That is, medical massage work that integrates various massage modalities such as neuromuscular massage, Swedish massage, deep Tissue massage, trigger point therapy, myofascial release, acupressure, and facilitated stretching. The integrated bodywork approach addresses multiple muscular issues and aids in muscle and injury recovery as well as helps with chronic pain.
Common feedback she hears from her clients include, ìI have never had a massage like that beforeî or ìI really like the technique you just did.î They often appreciate the techniques she implements during the massage ñ techniques to which they may have never been previously exposed.
Devakaiís sessions often end with sharing some home health advice with her clients regarding things that can be done outside of massage to help with their recovery and to maintain a healthy physical state.
Devakai feels that there is nothing better in the world than to receive the gratitude of another for the help you were able to give, enabling them to experience a better state of mental, physical, and spiritual wellbeing.
